NBA Players Athletic Ability Decreasing with Age |

Does your skill get better or worse with age in the NBA? Many of the best NBA players in history say,“no”. Players like Steve Nash; one of the best point guards ever seems to get better with age like a fine wine. He has been the most valuable player for the Phoenix Suns twice in a row and he is 33 years old. What’s more? Nash will be up as a candidate again for the MVP. This is proof that the older you get in the NBA doesn’t have to mean retirement. Chris Paul who plays for the New Orleans and Deron Williams of Utah are a few of the new point guards.
Jason Kidd, of the New Jersey Nets is also 33 years old and is playing his 13th season. Kidd is still shooting a high average (13.9 points) having 8.9 assists and 8.0 rebounds, despite going through a painful public divorce and dealing with lots of trade rumors. The fact is that Oscar Robertson had five seasons in a row from 1960 through 1965 where he averaged 14 points a game as well as having eight boards and nine assists in a single season.
The only other player to do that is Magic Johnson from 1981 to 1982 and again from 1982 to 1983. Jason Kidd is about to turn 34 years old and says the key is to “not feel old” and he says when you get older you see everything and you have leaned so much. People like Steve Nash and Jason Kidd seem to only get better with age. Although Kidd may never be MVP he is still a leading point guard in the NBA and sets a great example for all the other young players out there who think there careers or skills will decrease with age. |
